In the wake of the extended drought and subsequent devastating bushfires that scorched the East Coast of Australia earlier this year, Newgate Australia began planning for the 2nd annual National “Bush Summit”.

Conceived by Newgate as a means of shining a light on the challenges and disadvantages confronting rural and regional areas of Australia, Newgate Australia teamed up with the nation’s largest selling newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, to deliver a Covid Safe (in person and streamed) conference that was attended by as many as are allowed with social distancing – some 100 – but watched by thousands live on Sky Channel and online through the Daily Telegraph’s website.

Newgate was responsible for the development of the program and for arranging speakers and content for the day. A very impressive line-up of speakers included the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, Deputy Prime Minister, NSW Premier, Deputy Premier, both leaders of the Labor Party as well as countless CEO’s and other senior bureaucrats, industry leaders and policy makers.

The theme of the day was centred around how the Bush, could thrive from the post-Covid recovery. This was based on the realisation that Covid has shown us all that no matter where you live, as long as you have good IT, you can work anywhere! And with the bush offering a cheaper cost of living and wonderful lifestyle – the opportunities are endless.

At the end of the day a 10-point communique was developed and released which generated extensive coverage across the country.

The focus is now to ensure governments respond to the plan and develop policy shifts and changes to realise the objectives outlined. And with the event now firmly established as an annual gathering, governments are on a tight deadline to deliver as well!
