The SEC Newgate AI Weekly
There are a number of interesting updates from the world of AI this week and as it’s such a hot topic, Digital expert David Linnett has condensed just some of the best bits below:
OpenAI co-founder John Schulman has announced that he is leaving the company to take up a role at rival AI startup Anthropic, while fellow co-founder Greg Brockman has announced that he is taking extended leave. This comes at a tumultuous time for the company as it also faces a lawsuit from Elon Musk that alleges that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman violated the company's founding agreement by prioritising commercial interests over public welfare. Not the only lawsuit from Elon Musk this week…
Australia, the UK and the US have announced a successful trial of AI-led defence systems, with all three nations working together in the face of growing international tensions: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/aukus-takes-another-step-forward-with-real-time-ai-trials
Google acquisition character AI’s Prompt Poet is a really exciting new tool that simplifies prompt engineering for less technically astute people, making it more accessible, relevant and efficient for a much wider range of people.
My favourite update this week is a new chatbot called ProRata, which analyses AI outputs to find where they have been stolen from. A quote from the founder Bill Gross "It's stealing," Gross told Wired. "They're shoplifting and laundering the world's knowledge to their benefit." This is going to be really interesting to monitor as a number of AI tools have currently had free reign on what they can access without repercussions. Pertinently, Elon Musk (again) features in this conversation as his X platform faces nine privacy complaints after grabbing EU user’s data to train his AI tool, Grok.
